A couple of firsts!

We’ve had a couple of firsts in our house over the last couple of days!

The first one I’ll tell you about is a little difficult to be sure about. I’ve been saying Madeleine has said her first word for a while now. ย She’s been saying “Mama” “dada” “yes” and “hi”, but we weren’t counting those. Alex said that it needed to be a noun and that it needed to be un-prompted by us. Ok, ok. She was also saying “dit dee”, but Alex said she was just imitating my saying it.

Then, this weekend, we were sitting in the living room with her and Calliope (the cat) walked by and Madeleine said “itty!!” None of us mentioned the cat, so that was completely unprompted. Then when I ran to the grocery store on Sunday, Madeleine said “mama?” to Alex and he told her I was shopping and then she looked around again and said “itty?” because she couldn’t find the kitty. So, now Alex agrees with me that her first word is officially “Kitty!” ๐Ÿ˜€ I also think she is now saying baby, but maybe it’ll take a while to convince Alex of that one, too. LOL!

Wooo! She's up!

Secondly, she has been making fantastic progress with her movement in a couple of ways. The first way is that she is getting up onto her knees!! Over about the last week, she manages to push herself backwards and up onto her knees. ๐Ÿ˜€ Thus far she is just rocking and then flattening back out to army crawl around, but she is definitely trying!

Yeah!!!

In the last week or so she has also been trying to figure out how to get into a sitting position from her tummy. I can tell because of the way she was sort of rolling onto her hip and trying to lift her upper body up. So this weekend Alex spent some time with her showing her how to get up to a sitting position and helping her, while letting her do a lot of the work.

She got herself up to sitting so she could look at her books more easily. ๐Ÿ™‚

Today, after we got back from our walk, I put her on the floor playing and sat on the stair to take off my shoes. When I looked up again, she was sitting! What?!? I had to think for a second to make sure I really ย had put her down laying down rather than sitting up. Darn it! I missed it!! She got herself back onto her tummy and was crawling around again and I was doing something else and then looked back to check on her and she was sitting AGAIN!! What the heck?! Eventually today I did see her do it, several times, and it was so cute. ๐Ÿ˜€

See her? Getting into the cat's toys!

She’s getting pretty good at it, actually, and is able to do it by getting up onto her knees, then pushing her bum far back over her feet, rolling her hips to one side and using her arms to push her upper body back and up.

At this point, she is all over our house, too. ย She really enjoys messing with the cat door, and usually ends up locking it so that the cat gets locked out in the garage. Poor kitty!

Hiding things has become a new favorite thing to do, too. One of our weekend rituals is that when she wakes up in the morning, I go in and get her up, change her, feed her and then take her into our bedroom to see her daddy. They hang out, snuggle, play and I can take a shower. ๐Ÿ™‚ Well, one of the games they play is “hide the thing”. The thing being whatever toy she has at that moment. My cell phone, her stuffed kitty, her monkeys on a ring. You get the idea. She takes it and puts it under the covers or under a pillow and then lifts the covers/pillow up to look at it, puts the covers/pillow back down over it, repeat over and over again! So funny!

See the thin layer of hair all over?

Her hair is growing back, I am happy to report! I noticed it just before Thanksgiving and it’s already doubled in length in just a few days. Perhaps by Christmas she will have an even more full head of hair! ๐Ÿ˜€
