Madeleine and I arrived early to her PT appointment at the hospital. I had planned for her to nap in the car for an hour or so while I waited for it to be time to go in, but she had other plans and woke up not too long after arriving in the parking garage.
This gave us ample time to get in to the hospital, check her diaper, walk around and even take a little tour through the gift shop. Now, I’ve been in the gift shop before, and I have seen these little adorable giraffes. But the reason behind wanting to get her the giraffe requires a bit of a back story.
Ever since we went to the zoo with my parents in Chicago, Alex has mentioned that the giraffe is his spirit animal. For those of you who don’t know him, he has quite a long neck. People comment on it. So he has claimed the giraffe as his spirit animal in reference to that. Madeleine has a similarly long neck. It’s a bit more disguised these days with her extra face pudge, which she is slowly growing into, but it’s definitely long. 🙂
So today I had time and I went in and found the little mini giraffe and handed it to her. She quickly claimed it as her own by giving it a big hug and kiss. That sealed the deal. I can’t very well let my child slobber all over a stuffed animal and then put it back in the bin.
Ever since I bought it for her, she has loved on it. While waiting for physical therapy.
After physical therapy on the way to the cafeteria. From the cafeteria to the car. In the car. It’s also important to know that normally she holds onto a stuffed animal for a minute or so and then starts flinging it. Not the giraffe! The giraffe never got flung. 😀 She just kept giving it kisses and hugs and patting it.
And once we got home, it was time for a nap, so I brought the giraffe in the house with us and got her ready to sleep. We are working on weaning off the binky, to get back to where we were before all of this cancer stuff, and instead I gave her the giraffe in her crib. There was no crying for the binky! She was quite satisfied with her giraffe. In fact, she got really upset when she woke up and I took the giraffe out of the crib first. Once I lifted her out and gave the giraffe back, she was happy again.
So, Madeleine has a new BFF. The giraffe!! She slept with it all night last night and didn’t have a binky and was happy with that arrangement. 😀
